John: Hi everyone, and welcome back to RussianPod101.com. I'm John.
Karina: And I'm Karina!
John: This is Must-know Russian Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 21. In this lesson, you'll learn ways to refer to people.
John: Here you will learn how to refer to different types of people. Most of the examples are negative, but you can hear them widely used among all age groups.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are...
Karina: тормоз (tormas)
Karina: лузер (luzer)
Karina: чувак (chuvak)
Karina: мажор (mazhor)
John: Karina, what's our first expression?
Karina: тормоз (tormas)
John: This literally means "brake," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "slow person."
Karina: [SLOW] тормоз [NORMAL] тормоз
John: Listeners, please repeat.
Karina: тормоз

John: Use this expression when you want to call somebody a slow person in a judgmental manner.
John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.

John: Okay, what's the next expression?
Karina: лузер (luzer)
John: This literally means "loser."

John: Use this expression when you are not winning or you feel worthless. This word comes from the English word "loser."
John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.

John: Okay, what's our next expression?
Karina: чувак (chuvak)
John: This literally means "man, young man." As a slang expression, it means "dude."

John: Use this expression when you want refer to a young man. It's a neutral expression that doesn't show whether the guy is good or bad.

John: "Look, this dude has a cool car."
Karina: [NORMAL] Посмотри, у этого чувака крутая машина.
John: Okay, what's the last expression?
Karina: мажор (mazhor)
John: Which literally means "old money." As a slang expression, it means "rich person."
Karina: [SLOW] мажор [NORMAL] мажор
