Hi Tom and Elena,
Indeed I don't think you should refuse a drink in Russia, but the handy word in that case is:
Ну, хорошо, только чуть-чуть!
[Erm, all right, then just a little bit!]
Hello Judy Schmidt,
How much does it cost? - Сколько это стоит? (Skol`ka eta stoit?)
I would like to order….. - Я бы хотел заказать... (Ya by khatel zakazat`..)
Could you please add:
How much does it cost?
I would like to order.....
Unfortunately, I cannot give you any advice, I am not a specialist in this topic.
But I guess there will be no problem if you refuse politely and explain a reason why you refuse.
I was told that Russian men will coerce you to drink vodka with them, and if you refuse, they will be offended. Is it possible to politely refuse to drink? If so, how can I say it? Thank you.
Russian word order is flexible, so you can put words in any order basically. :)
This really helps but I'm finding it a little bit hard to put these words into sentences. Is there anything I should know tthat would help?
