John: Hi everyone, and welcome back to RussianPod101.com. I'm John.

John: This is Must-know Russian Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 17. In this lesson, you'll learn slang verbs.
John: In this lesson, you’ll learn four verbs that were criminal slang terms in the past, but are easily recognized and widely used by different groups of people nowadays.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are...
Karina: завалить (zavalit')
Karina: вестись (vestis')
Karina: фильтровать (filtrovat')
Karina: базарить (bazarit')
John: Karina, what's our first expression?
Karina: завалить (zavalit')
John: This literally means "to pull down," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "kill, take out."
Karina: [SLOW] завалить [NORMAL] завалить

John: Use this expression when you want to say that somebody has killed somebody on purpose or in a fight (this usually refers to criminals).
John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.

John: "He was whacked in a city center during the rush hour."

John: Okay, what's the next expression?
Karina: вестись (vestis')
John: This literally means "be conducted," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "be tricked."

John: Use this expression when you want to say that somebody is being naive and is easily tricked.

John: "You're as naive as a baby!"
Karina: [NORMAL] Ну что ты ведёшься как ребёнок!
John: Okay, what's our next expression?
Karina: фильтровать (filtrovat')
John: This literally means "to filter." As a slang expression, it means "to mind what you say."
Karina: [SLOW] фильтровать [NORMAL] фильтровать

John: Use this expression when you want to tell somebody to be careful with what they're saying.

John: Okay, what's the last expression?
Karina: базарить (bazarit')
John: Which literally means "to make a bazaar." As a slang expression, it means "have a chat."
