Did you notice how the last two speakers, Mark and I, used slightly longer phrases?

Let's start with Какая прекрасная погода! (Kakaya prekrasnaya pogoda!)

"What beautiful weather."

Какая прекрасная погода! (Kakaya prekrasnaya pogoda!)

Let’s start with погода (pogoda), "weather." Погода. Погода.

In Russian, all nouns have grammatical gender and are either singular or plural. Погода (pogoda) is feminine and singular — a fact which will determine the form of other words in the sentence.

Before this is прекрасная (prekrasnaya), “beautiful.” Прекрасная. Прекрасная.

Прекрасная (prekrasnaya) is singular and feminine to agree with погода (pogoda).

Moving to the front of the sentence, какая (kakaya), translating as “what” in this context. Какая . Какая.

Какая (kakaya) is singular and feminine to agree with погода (pogoda).

All together is Какая прекрасная погода! (Kakaya prekrasnaya pogoda!). "What beautiful weather!"

Let’s look at the other example, Какая плохая погода! (Kakaya plokhaya pogoda!) "What bad weather." Какая плохая погода!

Recall, Погода is singular and feminine, and this determines forms of other words of the sentence.

Before this is Плохая (Plokhaya), "bad." Плохая. Плохая.

Плохая (Plokhaya) is singular and feminine to agree with погода (pogoda).

Together, плохая погода (plokhaya pogoda) is "bad weather." Плохая погода.

Moving to the front of the sentence, какая (kakaya), “what,” in this context. Какая.
