Becky: Welcome to 3-Minute Russian Season 1, Lesson 13 - Who is it? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask who it is in Russian.
Body
Becky: Here's the way to ask 'Who is it?' in Russian.
Elena: [Normal] Кто это?(Kto eta?)
Becky: First is a word meaning 'who'
Elena: [Normal] кто [Slow] кто (kto)
Becky: Last is the word meaning 'this'
Elena: [Normal] это [Slow] это(eta)
Becky: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning 'Who is it?'
Elena: [Slow] Кто это? [Normal] Кто это?
Becky: Here's the way to ask, 'Who are they?'
Elena: [Normal] Кто они?(Kto ani?)
Becky: First is a word meaning 'who'
Elena: [Normal] кто [Slow] кто (kto)
Becky: Last is the word meaning 'they'
Elena: [Normal] они [Slow] они(ani)

Becky: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Elena: If someone knocks at your door, the most common expression we use in Russian is [Кто это? Kto eta] meaning “who is it?” If you are the one knocking, you answer with your name, unless they are familiar with your voice already, then just say - “It's me” which is [Это я. (eta ya)]
