In this video you’ll have a chance to test them out with a quiz.
First you’ll see an image and hear a question.
Next comes a short dialogue.
Listen carefully and see if you can answer correctly.
We’ll show you the answer at the end.
Are you ready?
Женщина спрашивает кое-что у продавца в книжном магазине.
Какую книгу хочет посмотреть женщина?
Извините, могу я взглянуть на книгу вон на той полке?
Которую книгу вы хотите посмотреть?
Книгу о машинах.
Подождите пожалуйста. Вот эту?
Верно.

Hello Alli,

1. You can also say "спрашивает продавца о кое-чем". The verb [спрашивать] can be used in 2 ways: [спрашивать у + a person] or [ спрашивать + a person + о (about)]

2. You can also use [можно], but in this case you need to change this sentence grammatically:

Извините, можно мне взглянуть на книгу вон на той полке.

3. Because we imply the verb here: [взглянуть на ] вот эту.

Please let us know if you have more questions.

Здравствуйте Shanna,

У меня есть три вопроса.

1. In the first sentence: Женщина спрашивает кое-что у продавца в книжном магазине, why is it спрашивает + у ? Could you just say "спрашивает кое-что продавца..."? Is there a difference between using the 'у' or not?

2. In: Извините, могу я взглянуть на книгу вон на той полке; could you use можно instead of могу? Is there a difference?

3. The продавец says: "Вот эту" . Why is эта (for книга) in винительный падеж?

Спасибо!

Hi Shanna,

When practicing listening, it's not necessary to catch all the words. The most important thing is to get used to conversation in Russian and to catch the general meaning. Therefore I think you can start this series any time.

Thank you,

Ofelia

When is it appropriate to begin these listening comprehension exercises? I see that the first one has words that I have not yet learned which makes me reticent to begin them.

I have completed sixteen of the absolute beginner lessons, and most of the 3 minute lessons.

Please advise.

Thank you,

Shanna
