John: This is Must-know Russian Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 1. In this lesson, you'll learn how to describe money in different ways.
John: All of these are very informal and may even sound rude, so make sure to use them among close friends or in other appropriate situations.

Karina: бабки (babki)
John: This literally means "grannies, old ladies," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "money."

John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.

John: This literally means "thing, unit," but when it's used as a slang expression, it means "1000 (rubles, dollars, etc.)."

John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.

John: “Can you lend me 1000 rubles and I can pay you back on Monday?” (Or literally, "Can you lend me 1000 rubles until Monday?")

Karina: лям (lyam)
John: This literally means "a million."
Karina: [SLOW] лям [NORMAL] лям

John: Now, let's hear an example sentence.

John: Okay, what's the last expression?
Karina: пятихатка (pyatikhatka)
John: Which literally means "five hundred." As a slang expression, it means "a 500 ruble bill."
