Cultural Insight
Becky: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Elena: Basically, "yes" is [da] in Russian. And "no" is [net]. However, there are some expressions which are widely used in daily life, that can be confusing for foreigners. For example, a typical answer can be [Да, нет. (da, net)]. But does it mean "yes" or "no"? It means "no"! This is because the Russian [da] has several meanings. It can be also translated as "well". So, [da, net] means "well, no".

Outro

Becky: And that’s all for this lesson. Don’t forget to check out the lesson notes, and we’ll see you in the next lesson!
Elena: Пока.

Let's practice here! Try translating this statement: 'I don't have it.'

Hello Ahmed,

thank you for your feedback!

I think that this basic lesson is intended to teach students basic phrases like "у меня нет" (I don't have).

You will learn a lot about the genitive case in the next lessons 😉

Kind Regards,
