По традициям того времени он сначала был определён на учёбу в кадетский корпус, но по окончании Скрябин поступил в Московскую консерваторию на класс фортепиано и композиции, где учился на одном курсе с Рахманиновым. Дважды женат (последний раз неофициально)и имевший семеро детей от обеих жён, Скрябин долгое время проживал заграницей, зарабатывая на жизнь исполнением собственных произведений. Он концертировал во Франции, Италии Швейцарии, Бельгии, Америке. Некоторое время Скрябин преподавал в Московской консерватории, однако считал это только средством незначительного заработка, большую часть времени отвлекающим его от творчества.
