Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin

Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin was a Russian composer and pianist, one of the leading representatives of the music culture in the late 19th, early 20th centuries. His works were represented by symphonic and piano works, and the nature of his music was dominated by the heroic pathos, fiery expression, the heat of expressed feelings, and sometimes even nervousness and impulsivity.
Scriabin was born on January 6, 1872 to an intelligent family and had all the prerequisites for a deep music and cultural education. According to the traditions of his time, he was first put to study with the cadet corps but after his graduation Scriabin entered the Moscow Conservatory for piano and composition class where he studied the same year with Rachmaninoff.
Scriabin was married twice (the last time unofficially) and had seven children from both wives; he lived abroad for a long time earning a living by performing his own works. He gave concerts in France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, and America.
For some time Scriabin taught at the Moscow Conservatory but considered it to be just a way of insignificant earnings, which mostly just distracted him from composing.
The early 20th century brought rev [...]</itunes:summary>

----Formal English----

Elena: John, let's be less formal with each other.
John: Yes, sure.
Elena: You are leaving soon...what impressions have you got of Russia in general?
John: Mixed impressions. From one side, everything is so new and unusual, from another side, I got really tired of work.
Elena: Mmm...I get it. Where have you been in Moscow?
John: I've been to Tretjakov Gallery, Red Square, Arbat. And also I dropped by on a friend's house, got to know his family.
Elena: Really? So you had a chance to have fun a little.
John: Yes, but I have something else in my plans!

----Formal Romanization----

<itunes:summary>Learn Russian with RussianPod101.com! You are walking through the streets of Moscow, enjoying your time off from school and work, when suddenly, you hear crying and yelling just ahead. As you get closer, you see a Russian storeowner and a teenage boy screaming loudly at each other! The storeowner is very angry and throws his arms around in fury. You look around you for answers from the crowd...no one is helping in any way. Crying, the teenager sits at a nearby bench, moping. But the storeowner follows him and starts pushing him, yelling more loudly! You don't know what to do...but you feel you should do something. Pulling out your cell phone, you call the Russian police station – they can handle it. The dispatcher on the other end asks you in Russian, "I know you dislike what you hear, but please describe the scene for me so I can tell the police." You explain in Russian, "There is a teenage boy, crying and moping. I see a very angry storeowner, yelling and complaining. And there is a scared woman running away, clutching her child to protect him." Within minutes, the police arrive and have the situation under control.

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky is the brightest, most unique, and extremely interesting phenomenon in the history of Russian, Germany, and the whole world's fine art; he was an expressionist who put the beginning to abstract art.

The future artist was born to a wealthy family, since childhood he studied music, art, and received an excellent education in law. But in 1896, instead of the offered position of a law professor, he decided to give up a promising career and dedicate himself entirely to art. He went on to study in Germany, which at the time was famous for its art schools. He studied special features of painting, drawing, graphics, and composition, but having a very extraordinary way of thinking, he often confronted the teachers that didn't understand his style, finding the compositions in his paintings to be too arbitrary and the colors too bright.

In the early 1900s Kandinsky traveled around Europe (Italy, France, Switzerland, and others). At that time he was mostly painting landscapes, using color dissonances, gradually replacing the images of reality with the play of color spots and streaks. He addressed his intere [...]</itunes:summary>
