Again, not about a car, but maybe about some device or mechanism. If you want to say that the car stopped because there was something wrong with the motor or for any other unknown to you reason, you say "машина заглохла" (mashina zaglokhla) :smile: You wouldn’t really say “перестать” about a car, unless you say “перестать работать”, to stop working.
